Self-Harm Awareness and Response
Wellbeing for Life are offering this training session from Connecting with People as part of the North East and North Cumbria Integrated Care System (ICS) suicide prevention agenda.
The session runs for approximately 3 ½ hours, facilitated by two trainers and will cover:
- Explore the myths and stigma associated with self-harm
- Understand the range of coping mechanisms when facing challenging life events
- Understand the prevalence of self-harm
- Understand reasons why people self-harm
- Know and understand more about self-harm including signs and causes
- How to talk to someone about self-harm
- Compassionate ways to support someone who uses self-harm as a coping mechanism
- Supporting people to find useful techniques and safer ways to deal with distress to support recovery from self-harm
- Techniques for developing and maintaining personal wellbeing & coping strategies to promote resilience
- Practice and know-how to co-produce an immediate and long-term Safety Plan
- Be aware of resources available to support someone who self-harms
